Everybody knows that Illmatic is one of the best hip hop albums of all time.Mostly because of it wise lyrics but lets not forget the INCREDIBLE BEATS ! From the best producer in the hip hop business,to the best lyrics in the game,illmatic has it all.Today I am going to talk on how everybody did a great job with the samples used .Not every song but the best one will be looked at.
Lets start with N.Y State Of Mind,one of the best beat in my mind.Dj Premier is one of the best with samples.He uses the drum of N.T. by Kool & The Gang that can be heard at 5:30 min.He uses the small sounds of Flight Time" by Donald Byrd at 22 seconds.He uses the piano keys of Mind Rain by Joe Chambers so well you can barely notice them.3 samples,Dj Premier always does the unthinkable.
Lets follow with Life's A Bitch.You can hear the background sound in the song YEARNING FOR YOUR LOVE by GAP BAND at 22 seconds.
Third is The World Is Yours.Samples the piano keys of Ahmad Jamal's I Love Music .
Back with Dj Premier for the beat Memory Lane (Sittin' in da Park).One of the best beat on the album in my opinion.Samples Reuben Wilson's We're In Love ,you can hear the loop at 23 seconds.Premier obviously high pitched the sample to give it that sweet sound.
Following is Represent.Once again Dj Premier takes a loop but still DAMNNN,think about it,you wouldn't be able to know where to chop.He samples the loop of Lee Erwin's Thief of Baghdad at 54 seconds.PURE GENIUS !
Last But Not Least It Ain't Hard To Tell .Large Professor samples Michael Jackson's Human Nature at the start and puts it in the background.
If I didn't say some samples,it's because I don't know how the producer used it.but here you got the best hip hop album and it samples !
